I almost never give 5 stars in a review, so no one should be upset with a 4 star review from me. I enjoyed these three books (which I read in this bundle rather than separately) immensely.Urban fantasy. Twisted, updated fairy tales. These books could be described as either of these. Christine Sutton has taken old, familiar stories we've been hearing since we were children, tweaked them a bit, and springboarded into whole new scenarios. Just because you know the story of, say, Little Red Riding Hood, don't think you know where Christine's version will end up. :)
There's some laughter to be had here. Some gut-wrenching terror. And some tears. Christine Sutton is a masterful teller of stories.
Because I am that most difficult of readers, a copy editor, I see errors that many other readers don't. I found a few places where the punctuation, word choice, or sentence structure could have been better. Will any of them bother 99.987% of readers? Nope.
I'm eagerly waiting for the next book in this series.

Burkheart Witch Saga Box Set Books 13 (Audible Audio Edition) Julia Whelan Christine Sutton Devil Dog Press Books Reviews
Reading all three in one made it to difficult to know where one book ended and another started. The different fairy tales give a bit of a clue. As the stories progress so do the fairy tales. There are actually quite a few nods to different tales in this.
This starts out very weird. It’s not that I did not like the story but many things about the character did not add up.
The story is fast paced and easy to follow so it did make me curious about book two but the main character, Kayla, does things that seem out of character. Even though I have just started reading about her!
Kayla seems like she wants to be a strong individual and at times that characteristic comes out, but for the most part she reminds me of a damsel in distress. The fact that she still lives with her crazy mother even though her mother is constantly putting her down, is one issue for me. Being that this is a short story I was able to go with it and got the feel for the character.
The way the fairy tale was told was a bit of a twist on the older version. Very different from other stories that I read and that came through nicely. The three books have three main fairy tales that they shoot off and the second has many parallels with The Three Little Pigs.
The third story was much better than the first two. One thing that I did not like was the way time progresses, though. One minute the story is about Kayla and the next it is about Grace. The reader is told what happens in the years that pass so it made it very difficult to connect with Grace. I can completely understand the appeal of not writing about a child or moving through time so quickly though.
This story really picks up with the action. Grace seems a bit more proactive than her mother, Kayla, so the story flows better. The characters also have come into their own now so I had a feel for what they would or would not do.
Since this was on audio I was not fully aware of when each story ended or another began. They flow seamlessly as one book. The narration was fabulous and I could easily tell who was who. I would have preferred listening to each separately or having some kind of definition for when the books ended to give a reference point. Julia Whelan did a fantastic job of adding inflection to her voices. This is one story that could have used more fantastical sounds in the background, especially in book three when the Jinn arrives.
Received by author, through audiobookreviewer.com, in exchange for an honest review.
This will teach me to not get a sample before buying! I felt like I was reading a book written by a 15 year old girl. I'm only about 5% through and I'm not sure I'll even bother finishing. What a waste of $4.00.
Thank u
I loved this series and I loved the idea of all the species in the book
Thank for allowing audible audio also
From what read so far the writer did excellent would recommend the book to every one
Kept my interest. Read all three books in record time. Will probably read more of her books.
The author uses Grimm's fairy tales to tell a modern day story. But it works well. This was well written and executed. Good character development. If you like fantasy, I recommend it highly.
This three volume was like a single story about three generations of witches. Elements from classic fairy tales are woven into vampire, werewolf encounters. The author did a good job of creating multidimensional personalities. It ends with a cliffhanger so I hope there will be a 4th volume.
